WOW!!!

What an amazing first week!!!  I am so impressed with all of you.  The level of participation has been fantastic...keep it up!!

I think that this week's lab focusing on scientific method and observations showed me that you all are ready to tackle any scientific problem that is presented to you this year.  I am looking forward to watching all of you taking a problem and running with it...

Just as a sneak preview, here are some things to look forward to next week...

5th and 6th grade...Metric Olympics!!!  10 events!!!  Get ready to go for the gold!!!

7th and 8th grade...We will be learning all about properties of matter with a grand finale lab   that is too awesome to reveal until Thursday because once know, you will be too excited to do anything else.  I will just say, it will be perfect for the hot weather we have been having :)

Also,  I wanted to complement all of you on the attention that you paid to keeping the room tidy and organized.  YOU ROCK!!!

Have a super, amazing, fantastic weekend and I will see you all Monday :)

Mystery Can

WOW THAT WAS LOUD...but great investigative work today 5th and 6th grade.  Awesome idea to step outside or into the office for quiet in order to isolate your sounds!!!

I loved all of your Skittle's adventure stories!!  Very creative...

I will be collecting science folders tomorrow, so please be sure to have everything you need to turn in.

Observation vs. Inference

My observation of your class today....
            1.  As a class, you asked 182 questions
            2.  Everyone was able to answer questions from the homework.
            3.  The room was full of discussion during the extra 3 false assumptions.

My inference, based on my observation today...

You all did your homework, really enjoyed doing the false assumptions, and are a very curious and highly motivated group of students.

Did I make any false assumptions??? :)

Remember, homework tonight...5 qualitative, 5 quantitative observations and an inference for each.

Skittle's Story

Due to popular demand, you may post your Skittle's adventure story here in the comments 5th and 6th graders.  Please remember to include an observation that he makes from all of his five senses.  Great work today.  I appreciated your participation in our science safety discussion. I am looking forward to getting to our mystery can lab tomorrow.

Ms. Yates

FREEDOM!!!

Great job today!!!  You are my first class EVER to figure out how to escape from the ropes!!!  Don't forget to go to the false assumptions PowerPoint and answer the wrap up questions for homework.

All Tied Up!!

Great work today scientists!! Our first attempt at solving a problem scientifically went very well today. Remember to have the first five questions complete before class tomorrow and brainstorm ideas for how to get free from the ropes. You will have about five minutes with the ropes tomorrow to get free before the big reveal...HINT: What assumptions might you be making that are getting in the way of solving this problem??

We did it!! We did it!! We did it!! Oh wait.....

Oh, and vote for your favorite frog name!!! See you tomorrow :)
