Pig Dissection Day 1

What observations were you able to make about the external anatomy of your pig?  Is your pig a male or female?  How do you know?

  1. The pig I am dissecting has a stain of blood on his right snout and had no brown spots. Also the umbilical cord is flat and the pig is very hairy. The pig I'm dissecting is a male. I can tell because the nipples are flat and the pig doesn't have a urogenital papilla. The smell of chemicals was much stronger than the eye ball. I also thought that the pig would be much bigger. One last thing... our pigs name is gorge. I wanted to name him Kevin Bacon. Tomorrow will get ugly.

  3. My Pig is a boy. I know this because he has no urogenital papillea. He is very soft, is rectangularish, skinny, and you can see his ribs and spine. His eyes are bluish, his tongue is sticking out, and we tagged him with the name of ryot. (Riot)

  8. My pig is a female and her name is Miss Piggy. I know this because there is a urogenitillia papillia. There are 7 pairs of nipples, with a total of 14. There is also a divit with red hair. Lastly, there is a red blood mark on her head.

  9. M pig, Charlie, is a male. I know this because it does not have a urogenital papilla. Some observations I made about the external part of my pig was that it smelled really bad, the ears were
shut as well as the eyes, there was a little bit of hair on the body, its umbilical cord was looking not that great, it had a tail, and on one side, you could see the lines of the bag it was in.

  10. Our pig's name is Gip and he is a male. If I was trying to figure out if it was a male of female pig I would look for the urogenital tract. If it was right under the umbilical cord then it would be a male, if not it would be a female. Males, unlike females, also do not have a urogenital papilla.
