Cupcake Core Drilling

How did the core drilling allow you to get a more accurate idea of the composition of the cupcake? What could you have done to get an even more precise vision? What technique did we discuss in class that would allow you to determine the composition of area of the earth not able to be reach by drilling?

  6. It was really intresting but I couldnt find the analysis questions. I thought that the cupcake geography was really intresting. I thought the frosting was the best part because it represented the crust of the earth. I thought that it was really cool that the cupcake had layers that represented the earth. I thought that it was really fun, and that there was so many layers that represent the earth. And I thought that the fruit in the middle was great for the earths core. By; Kristin Snyder 6th grade

The core drilling allowed me to get a more accurate idea of the composition of the cupcake because I was able to know what different parts of the cupcake looked like. I could have done more of the core drilling, I would've put them in other spots that don't have holes yet. We discussed seismic waves and rock samples.

  8. The core drilling investigation showed me the different layers of the cupcake. The different layers of the cupcake represented the layers of the earth. The technique we discussed was to drill to the bottom because the people that didn't drill to the bottom didn't find the cherry or blueberry or the core of the Earth.

  10. the core drilling showed me different layers of the cupcake. Using sounds waves would not work with a cupcake. I think the way we did it was easiest.

  13. shalyn,

It showed us what colors where in the cupcake and were. I could have drilled more. Sound waves that are huge.
P.S. i had so much fun!!!

  14. I liked this lab because it was very educational. It was helpful to tell me about how they view the layers of the earth. i liked eating the cupcake. My blueberry was missing though.

  15. How did the core drilling allow you to get a more accurate idea of the composition of the cupcake?
Drilling the core we were able to find out what was inside the cupcake. It had chocolate and blueberry.
What could you have done to get an even more precise vision?
    Eat the cupcake!
What technique did we discuss in class that would allow you to determine the composition of area of the earth not able to be reach by drilling?
    Using seismic waves.
