Pink Sand Beach

Time for some blog homework 6th grade!  Read the article linked below and explain why the sand on this beach is pink.  Pretty amazing right!?!

  1. The sand at Harbour Island is pink because it is a composition of broken down coral, broken shells, minute rocks, and calcium carbonate from tiny marine invertebrate. The color comes from a microscopic shelled animal called Foraminifera that has a bright pink or red shells. This is what caused the sand to be pink.

  2. The beaches are pink because of the tiny microscopic shelled animals known as Foraminifera. This animal has a bright pink shell full of holes through wich it extends a footing called pseudopodia.
