Red Worm Observations

What did you observe with your red worm habitat today?  Did you notice any changes?

  1. Today in our red worms I observed that some of the kitchen waste was gone. When I felt the soil it felt wetter and when I looked at the red worms they looked bigger.

  2. Today when we looked at the red worms, I saw that the kitchen waste was coverd with dirt. Rather gone. When me, Savana, and Avini dumped the whole thing out, we started looking for the worms.
When it was time to leave, my group found 4 worms and 1 was alive! ( The one alive was the one Mrs. Yates gave us in the beginning of the class)

  4. Today me and my group could not find all our worms but the ones we found were all dead. We could not find out why they died but we think it was the coffee grounds, the rotten apple, or that they were smashed or not eating.

  6. Most of the items in our group were rotting and moldy! Also we noticed our dead worms were longated and stretchy! We found a beetle too but we wont believe it affected the worms! Some of our food was gone but not much..

  7. I saw all, but the two red worms we got at the beginning of class were dead. I think the smelly coffee grounds poisoned them. - Keegan B

  9. Brock could only get two worms out because they got scared when his hand was in the jar. After getting 2 more worms, my group hosted a 1 foot dash for the redworms. At the end of class we named them W., O., R., M., and S. In the smelly jar, the food was partly eaten although the newspaper looked the same as before. Apparently, many other groups had dead mealworms causing me to find my group quite successful.-Zachary

  10. I noticed in the red worm habitat that the worms had dug down deeper to keep them cool. Some worms had died and only 2 are left. Some of the kitchen waste is gone. Lastly I observed that the worms grew in length by one inch.
