Sounds Off Investigation

I had a great time with you today 5th grade!!! Here are a couple of more wrap up questions for you to answer on our Sound Off Investigation.

1. Explain the activity. What did each the bag, noise makers, and people represent in our activity?
2. If you were a predator, was it easy or hard to find your prey?
3. Did any other noises in the environment make the activity more challenging?

  1. From Quinn. Today we tested if you could rely on hearing as well as sight i could not do that. 2 people represented the predator and the rest prey. i wasn't a predator but the noises still affected me because i couldn't here people coming and always got out : (

  2. 1. You put the paper bag over your head so it will look like your a blind creature. next you had the noise maker to sound like animals noises. Then you had to walk around and if a predator tagged you, you were out.
    2. I wasn't the predator so I did not know if it was hard or not.
    3. There wasn't that much noise and didn't affect the activity and did not make it more challenging.

  3. Are you going to put questions 4 and 5 because I already did 1-3 in my notebook. This was fun I got to be predator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. 1. You put bag over head so it is night zzzzzzzzz next you had to make noise. You walk and the predator tries to eat you.
    2. iwasnt predator?
    3. Nothing affected the activity

  5. 1. Our activity was to put a paper bag over our heads. 2 people would be predators without noise makers and the rest will be the prey. Each prey will walk slowly with their bags on their heads making noise. The predators will try to tag them. If they tag them, they say predator and the prey takes off their bag and wait patiently for the others. The last 2 standing are the predators the next round.
    2. Today, I was a predator and it was a bit challenging. It was very difficult for me to find the prey because there were so many noises I thought they were like 200 people making noise.

    1. In this activity, we blindfolded ourselves with paper bags, then got noisemakers that we shook as we walked around. Everybody did this except for two people; the predators. They had to tag us using the noise makers to guide them. The last two standing were the next predators. The bag was the blindfold, the people were the predators/prey, and the noise makers were the sounds that the prey make.
    2. When I was a predator, I found it easy and hard to catch my prey because some noisemakers were very loud and others were very quiet.
    3. The other noises in the environment did make the activity more challenging. I was not a predator, but I notices others were getting confused with other sounds.
    Awesome lab! Loved it!!!

  7. Our activity was a game were u had to really on your sense of hearing. In my opinion it was very hard. The bag meant that you had really bad vision or you are looking for food at night. Our noise makers represent the noise that a prey would make. Yes! As a predetor you hear many things all around you and i don't even see where they were.

  8. 1. Had to put the paper bag over your head to figure out where to go by using your sense of speech, hearing, touching, and smelling...sometimes. 2. It was hard because there was a lot of sound and without sight, I THINK it is very hard to do activities where you need your sight...like this one. 3. I think the noise made it much more challenging because you have to figure out which person to touch first.

    1) In this lab we blindfolded ourselves with paper bags and used different noisemakers to make a lot of noise. Two people weren't give noisemakers, and these were the predators. They, the predators had to locate you and tag you by using their sense of hearing. The bag stood for conditions in the environment in which you would have restricted vision, the people for predators or prey, and the noisemakers for sounds the prey make.
    2) When I was a predator it was pretty easy to find my prey because I have really good hearing.
    3) The sound in the environment did make it difficult at first, but then I learned to tune out the loud sounds to listen to footsteps or other noises relevant to someone's location.

In this lab, we blindfolded ourselves by putting paper bags over our heads and walking around the blacktop with noise makers. The predators, did not have noise makers and tried to capture the prey. The paper bags represented bad eye sight, noise makers as different sounds that different animals make.

    1. the bags were blindfolds and no vision, the noise makers were the noises animals make, the people were predator and prey
    2. if I were a predator it was easy because I could hear them walking by

  12. In this lab, we had paper bags over our head so we had restricted vision. Therefore, we had to rely on our sense of hearing and touch. The bags represented restricted vision, the noisemakers represented different animals calls and the people with noisemakers were the prey the others without noisemakers were considered predators. When I was the predator it was quite hard to find the prey because some of the noisemakers made little to no sound. I literally had to stop to listen to my surroundings then try to continue walking in the right direction. Therefore, it was harder to find the prey. Other noises such as shouting, and the rustling of leaves distracted me, because sometimes I would go the opposite direction. This made it more challenging because it was hard to know what was prey. Although, the gear crackers were quite loud. So, it was much easier to hear those ones.

    1. We put bags on our head and two people were predator and the rest prey.
    2. I kept being eaten never predator.
    3. No other noises

  14. 1. In this investigation we had to pretend we were predators and prey. We all had to wear paper bags over our heads and the prey had to make noises but the predators didn't have to. The predators had to try to touch the prey. I think the blindfolds are meant to be at night or bad vision. The noise makers are probably meant to be the noise animals make.
    2. I was a predator once and I thought it was easy to find the prey because I could use my sense of hearing and find the prey.
    3. Some noises like the wind and people talking made it difficult at times to find the prey because I traveled towards the sound to find nothing.

  16. In the lab the noisemakers represented the sounds animals make, the bags represented animal senses being blocked. When I was a predator it was not so hard to find my prey. I did not encounter any other distracting noises.

    1. the bags represented limited sight.
The noise makers were the noises that animals make
We represented noisy preys or silent predators

    2. I was not a prey

    3. no, the other noises made it easier because I didn't crash into other noisy preys.
