Rockets

What strategies are you employing to increase the hang time of your rocket?

  1. My group's rocket is coming along nicely. My two partners have an idea to make our rocket better so I'm just gonna leave them to it.

    Working on the rocket was very fun. I enjoyed it with my partner Andrew. He had alot of great ideas. I also enjoyed seeing all of the other rockets that the other 7th and 8th graders made. I think that the rocket we made will do a good job. Good bye.

  4. me Kyle and Jacob are going to add wings to the rocket. we want the rocket to have some more air Resistance and we are going to try to figure out how to equip a parachute on it. we hope it works

  5. Our rocket looks really weird looking but we have wings on our rocket to help with the air resistance and we are trying to figure out how to attatch the parachute.

  6. we have a weight suspended from the parachute which is inside the nose cone. when the rocket turns sideways the weight will still be pointing towards the earth so the force of the weight is perpendicular to the rocket, pulling the parachute out of a hole in the side of the nose cone. The nose cone and fins are turned so that the rocket will spin, undoing any slight tilt of the nose cone and preventing the rocket from veering off course. The tip of the nose cone is flat to lower drag when the rocket is pointed straight up but increase it when it tilts to increase the time when it is sideways in the air so the parachute can deploy. it also prevents the rocket from tilting until it enters zero g.

  7. My friend and I are using an excuse of a cone that will fall off to let our parachute (which would be inside the cone) free to do its thing. Also, we have implemented little wing-like structures to increase air resistance and create a pressure differential. BUENO

  8. The strategy that Nicole and I are using, are cups. As you see in the picture, the is a cup facing upwards and a cup facing downwards to act as a parachute. I do not know how well Nicole and i are going to do.

  9. Riley and I are working on creating a rocket that will use cups as parachutes that will resist air resistance and will hover in air longer than without it. He could use a brush or something to attach to the top for the top cup. Air can go over the bristles but go through them f there is a lot of pressuure

  10. Sammy and I are using a parachute to slow down the rocket on the way down, but on the way up we built a nose cone so that the parachute doesn't effect the flight. I can't wait until we get to launch the rockets tomorrow. - Hanna
