What type of motion will your marshmallows experience? What will be the source of the forces involved? What will you need to take into consideration when launching your marshmallow? Do you predict you will be "king of the castles"?
Reasons why team A+AJ will win (I'm N-Dru) 1. We built a gunslinger cannonarm with dynamic distance adjusters. The trajectory is controlled by two movements, the tightness of a clip connecting the spoon the popsicle sticks and a rubber band controlling speed. 2. Dynamic aim allows whatever is needed, from bullet to lob city, which is controlled by the height from the popsicle sticks to the ground when stagnant
The forces in play are inertia, friction, trajectory as well as pure design
BTW - I have a sister so the rubber band, ponytail, girl's advantage kinda applies to me as well
This is one of my favorite challenges this year. it's no bueno that my partner Troy won't watch our spoon thingy kick butt in the competition tomorrow. oh well... ~Michaela
The marshmallow will be in a fluid motion because it is in air. It might also be static because it is being thrown so there is that pause wit the spoon and the marshmallow. The forces acting on the objects is gravity and air resistance. Gravity is stronger than air resistance so the objects are on the ground. The marshmallow will be in projectile motion once it is launched. You have to take in to consideration how far back you need to launch the marshmallow and the direction it is in. You also need to keep in mind the farthest and shortest distances you can launch the marshmallow so you know what how far back to hold the spoon. Also keep in mind that marshmallows stick sometimes to the spoon. I think we might have a chance of getting King of the Castle, but I think it mostly depends on who we are up against and if we are able to easily master acceleration. Nicole
It will experience the arch motion, or a baseball player throwing a ball. The forces are gravity and acceleration. I will take into consideration how far I need to pull back the spoon and how big I need to build the castle. I think Nicole and I will win. -Riley

This was a very difficult challenge because my teams catapult either broke or did not shoot the marshmallow. I hope we win. sammy
